Taiwan KKday Travel Essentials
I use KKday to book my travel essentials like SIM card, transportation like airport transfer and train tickets, and also travel articles like attraction tickets and tours. Here’s a guide to the travel essentials and most popular travel tickets you would need for your next trip to Taiwan!
Taiwan Travel SIM Card
Taiwan travel SIM Card is the first thing I purchase for my trip. We need high speed internet for almost everything. My default SIM card arrangement is to purchase the Chunghwa Telecom pre-paid SIM card (e-SIM also works). Chunghwa Telecom is Taiwan’s largest telecom provider and their 4G/5G high-speed internet is great for calls, hotspot sharing, and more.
Important notes:
- After you purchase the SIM card on KKday, check your email for the voucher and read the instructions carefully.
- Each traveler can only redeem 1 SIM card. Your name will be linked to your SIM card.
- This product is subject to relevant regulations, remember to complete the real-name registration online before (to enjoy 1 extra free day of internet) or present your passport and voucher for real-name verification and confirmation before pickup. If you complete the real-name registration online before entering Taiwan, the collection process will be faster at the airport as it saves you the time of copying the IDs, filling out the application form, and taking photos on-site.
- Find the designated pick-up point to collect your SIM card
- The staff will assist in the activation upon pick-up. The data used until 24:00 on the day of activation will be free of charge. The actual usage period: free on the day of activation + the number of days purchased.
Bonus: The current KKday travel SIM. card promotion comes with a free EasyCard/iPASS with every purchase of the SIM card. We forgot to collect our free EasyCard from the staff at Taoyuan airport as we were rushing to catch our airport transfer. And guess what? The staff contacted me and arranged for me to pick up our free EasyCard before we depart Taiwan. Amazing service!
Airport Transfers
While it is very convenient to connect from Taoyuan airport (and other airports in Taiwan) to the big cities like Taipei, I choose to book KKday private airport pick-up/drop-off services when I travel with a big group (especially with elderly and kids) or when I have lots of luggage and shopping bags.
For my most recent trip, I enjoyed KKday’s airport transfers and airport pick-up/drop-off services. It was so convenient and fast! The smooth drive between Taoyuan airport and Taipei is less than one hour. The service is cheaper than a taxi; without the hassle of lining up in a queue. I had a number of heavy luggage and bags so the airport transfer service from my hotel to the airport made the end of my trip was comfortable.
Important notes:
- You can book 6 hours beforehand for same-day pickup.
- 24-hour customer service and free cancellation 48 hours before pickup. Adjustments cannot be made within 1 day of departure.
- For airport pickups, please keep an eye out for the KKday staff holding a welcome sign with your name and KKday logo waiting by the arrival hall.
- If you are departing for the airport, the driver information and car license plate number will be sent to you before 8:00 pm (GMT+8), 1 day before departure to your KKday account messages.
- Grace period: Pickup: 90-minute + Meet & Greet Service Included / Drop-off: 30-minute.
- The 90-minute grace period is based on the arrival time shown on the airport signboard. If you fail to show up after the grace period without prior notice, no refund will be provided.
- Travel tip: Try to be fast at the airport once you land. I thought the 90-minute grace period should be more than enough but I had to rush in the end because the luggage pickup, lucky draw at Taiwan Lucky Land booth, SIM card collection, and toilet visit – all these took some time.
- If the flight is delayed, the driver will wait for 90 minutes from the flight’s actual landing time. If you couldn’t board the original flight, you will be fully refunded
Taiwan High Speed Rail Tickets
Taiwan High Speed Rail (THSR) connects cities and towns in Taiwan with its fast and comfortable trains. It takes only 1.5 hours to travel between Taipei and Kaohsiung.
The 12 THSR stations form the “Western Corridor” of Taiwan as they connect Taoyuan and Taipei in the north to Zuoying (Kaohsiung in the south). THSR and TRA train lines complement each other so you can take THSR to city centers and then transfer to TRA to reach smaller towns.
It is cheaper to buy Taiwan High Speed Rail (THSR) on KKday than on the official THSR website. There are two ongoing promotions.

Buy one get one free: 2 people travelling together can enjoy buy one get one free Taiwan High Speed Rail tickets if your destination is: Taichung, Changhua, Yunlin, Chiayi, Tainan, Zuoying (Kaohsiung). Examples of discounted fares: The original price of Taipei-Taichung ticket is TWD $700, overseas passengers enjoy a 15% discount of TWD $595. After the buy one get one free discount, each person is TWD $298.
Tips for Taiwan High Speed Rail tickets
How To Redeem Your Voucher
- Provide your full English name, gender, date of birth, passport number, and nationality when booking. No changes can be made after the booking has been confirmed. Be careful! I keyed in the wrong information for one traveller and I had to cancel the ticket (lose 5% processing fees) and rebook.
- Free admission for children below 6 years old, and they must not occupy a seat.
- You will receive a confirmation email along with an e-voucher after the booking has been confirmed. Tickets must be redeemed and used within 89 days from the day after the booking date.
- Please use the redeem code in the email first to make a reservation on the official website of Taiwan High-Speed Rail Pass (THSR Pass). Please note that only reservations within 29 days (from 12:00 am on the reservation-making date) are allowed. Reservations made on Fridays or Saturdays are applicable to reservations 4 weeks later (GMT+8, including Sundays).
- To redeem the physical ticket, please present your voucher and applicable documents (visa-exempt entry, tourist visa, or entry permit) at a High-Speed Rail manual ticket counter, and tell them you already completed the online reservation.
- Travellers with reserved seat tickets must enter through the manual gate and prepare ID documents for verification.
How to exchange Taiwan High-Speed Rail Pass
- Visit the official website of Taiwan High-Speed Rail Pass (THSR Pass) ➔ Click the ‘Language’ button ➔ Click the ‘Order Management’ button.
- Click ‘Search by order number’ ➔ Enter ‘Voucher No.’ and ‘Passport No.’ (must be consistent with the submitted passenger information).
- Check the passenger list ➔ Click ‘Reservation’ button ➔ Select ‘Board Date’ and ‘Board Time’
- Select your train (check for the timetable for earlier or later trains) ➔ Click ‘Confirm Train’ ➔ Complete the reservation.
- Ticket Pickup: Present redeem code with all travellers’ original copies of passports, and proof of entry (e.g. visa) at any THSR ticket counter to redeem physical tickets.
