Hotel Review: Holiday Inn Resort Bali Canggu – Best stay in Canggu with rooftop pool

Holiday Inn Resort Bali Canggu: Exclusive rooftop infinity pool in the heart of Canggu, Bali

This was my second trip to Bali, but my first time in Canggu. I had always heard about Canggu’s beaches, surf culture, the laid-back vibe and cafes. So when I was planning this trip, I knew I wanted to stay somewhere close to the beach. After going back and forth on a few options, I landed on the Holiday Inn Resort Bali Canggu. And honestly? Best decision I made for this trip.

Holiday Inn Resort Bali Canggu Location

Holiday Inn Resort Bali Canggu sits on Jalan Pantai Batu Bolong, Canggu’s main street that runs straight down to the beach and is the beating heart of the whole neighbourhood. This is genuinely one of the best-positioned hotels in Canggu.

One of the main reasons why I booked this hotel is because Batu Bolong Beach is just a four-minute walk from the hotel door. This is Canggu’s most iconic surf beach with long, rolling waves that draw expert and beginner surfers from all over the world. The surf school scene operates right on the sand and watching the lineup from the shore is one of those simple Bali moments that never gets old. If you want to try surfing, board rentals and lessons are available right on the beach. The waves here are forgiving and well-suited to first-timers, which makes the location especially good for families.

Perfect beach weather in November

🏄 Beach and Surf

  • Batu Bolong Beach: Four-minute walk from the hotel door
    • Canggu’s most iconic surf beach with long, rolling waves for all levels
    • Surf schools, board rentals and lessons available right on the sand
    • Gentle waves that are great for first-timers and families. It is super fun to watch from the shore even if you never get in the water – that’s what I did!
  • Echo Beach, just north of Batu Bolong, is the area’s more advanced surf spot. The broader Echo Beach area includes Pererenan River-mouth and Echo Reef.

🛍️ Markets and Shopping

  • Love Anchor Bazaar: Open daily on Jalan Pantai Batu Bolong with 50+ vendors on weekdays and up to 150 on weekends, selling clothing, jewellery, homeware, organic skincare and handmade accessories. I find the items sold here quite expensive but I had some fun browsing.
  • Old Man’s monthly market: Held on the last Saturday of every month, where local creatives sell handicrafts, vintage clothing, and fresh produce.
  • La Brisa Sunday Market: Relaxed open-air market with local makers and good food right on the beachfront. I took a short Grab ride there.

🍹 Beach Bars and Cafes

  • Old Man’s: The legendary beachside bar and beach club right on Batu Bolong, with happy hour 2-for-1 drinks daily from 5–6 PM and live DJs most evenings.
  • Motel Mexicola: A restaurant and bar that is very lively at night with great music and many dancing tourists.
  • Avocado Factory: The first avocado bar in Southeast Asia, sourcing all avocados from local farmers, with an all-day menu of avo-based toasts, pancakes, smoothies, burgers, and salads.
  • Jalan Batu Bolong: Lined with independent cafes, restaurants, co-working spaces, and yoga studios — you could eat somewhere different every day and not run out of options.

The hotel also shares its grounds with the Regent Bali Canggu, IHG’s ultra-luxury sister property. The entrance off the main road is beautifully landscaped with frangipani trees and tropical foliage. The transition from the buzzy street to the calm of the resort is almost immediate, which is exactly what you want after a full day of exploring Bali.

Getting to Holiday Inn Resort Bali: From Ngurah Rai International Airport (Bali Denpasar Airport), it is about a 45 to 60 minute-ride to the hotel depending on traffic. There is no complimentary airport shuttle so you can arrange a Grab or private transfer in advance (the hotel’s concierge can help you to organise this). I booked a driver to bring me around Bali during this trip so it was an easy ride to the hotel from the airport.

Holiday Inn Resort Bali Canggu Check-In and Service

Spacious and greenery-filled entrance and lobby

The lobby is warm, contemporary and inviting with Balinese influences and rich wooden finishes. The staff were attentive and friendly. It was nice to have a chilled welcome drink after travelling to Canggu from the airport. The check-in process was fast and smooth. The staff was very helpful with our luggage.

Official check-in is from 3:00 PM and check-out by 12:00 noon. They can sometimes accommodate early check-in depending on availability. The concierge will look after your luggage if you arrive earlier or after you check out.

Other service details worth noting: 24-hour front desk, concierge, doctor on call, pillow menu and even babysitting and nanny services if you are travelling with young children. The hotel has clearly thought about who stays here and what they actually need.

Tip for IHG members: IHG One Rewards members often get priority on early check-ins. The programme is free to join and points accumulate quickly. This is especially useful if you are doing a longer trip across multiple IHG properties in Southeast Asia.

Holiday Inn Resort Bali Canggu Rooms

Credit: Holiday Inn Resort Bali Canggu

Holiday Inn Resort Bali Canggu boasts 144 rooms and suites and every single one of them has been meticulously designed to feel like a proper Bali retreat. I really like the homely: warm wood, natural textures and resort-style finishes. The resort comfortable, homely and genuinely integrated into the Canggu vibe. Everything feels very new, very well-kept, and like someone actually thought about how a guest would want to live in the space, not just sleep in it.

All rooms include premium pillow-top bedding, a signature soft and firm pillow menu, furnished balconies, a 55-inch smart TV, laptop-friendly workspace, in-room safe, floor-installed air conditioning and free WiFi at 25+ Mbps.

I stayed in the Premium Ocean View room and I would book it again without hesitation. Waking up to the Indian Ocean from the balcony in the morning was such a treat. The resort-themed room is warm and woody and I wanted to spend more time in the room even though I had packed itinerary to explore many attractions in Canggu.

Welcome towel-elephant welcomed us

The bathroom is surprisingly spacious for the room size. The wardrobe is a standout too: a big, beautiful wooden wardrobe that is genuinely practical for longer stays. Plenty of space to unpack properly and actually feel settled, which makes such a difference when you are travelling for more than a few nights.

The balcony is a lovely little spot to wind down with a morning coffee, an evening drink, or just sitting and doing nothing while enjoying the Canggu breeze.

Ocean-front balcony

One highlight was the hotel’s special service! The hotel arranged a birthday surprise in the room completed with towel animals on the bed and a slice of cake with a personalised name on it (all complimentary). If you are travelling for a special occasion, mention it when you book. They clearly take the extra effort seriously!

I really appreciated the special birthday celebration surprise!

Here is a full breakdown of the room types:

Standard Room (32 sqm): Available in twin or king configuration. Rich wooden accents, well-considered decor, and a balcony with city or garden views. A great choice for couples or solo travellers.

Premium Ocean View Room (32 sqm): Elevated finishes and the best ocean-facing views in the hotel. If waking up to the Indian Ocean is on your Bali travel bucket list, this is the category to book. I can personally vouch for it. Worth asking the hotel to confirm the exact sightline from your room when booking.

One-Bedroom Suite (64 sqm): At twice the size of a standard room, these suites offer proper space to spread out. A curved design that blends beautifully into the resort’s overall aesthetic. Ideal for couples and families celebrating a special occasion.

Kids’ Suite (64 sqm): There are only four of these suites in the hotel so availability is limited. Each has a separate children’s bedroom. If you are travelling with children, book one of these early. They sell out!

Holiday Inn Resort Bali Canggu Facilities

Holiday Inn Resort Bali Canggu’s facilities genuinely surprised me in the best way.

Stunning sunset from the hotel’s rooftop infinity pool

Rooftop Infinity Pool: This is the centrepiece of the hotel and it earns its reputation. Panoramic 180-degree views of the Indian Ocean, sun loungers, thatched gazebos and a cosy pool bar open from sunrise until midnight. The pool itself is open for swimming from 7:00 AM to 7:00 PM daily.

A cooling cocktail by the pool is the ultimate indulgence

The sunset from up here is something else. The kind of view where you reach for your phone, take a dozen photos and then quietly put it away and just look. Get yourself a sun lounger early if you want a front-row spot before the crowd gathers for golden hour.

The pool transforms into a glowing oasis under the night sky

Kids’ Club and Children’s Pool: There is a dedicated children’s pool and one of the best-designed Kids’ Club spaces I have come across in Bali. The programme includes arts and crafts, Balinese cultural activities, yoga, treasure hunts, interactive storytelling, and movie sessions. It is genuinely engaging — not just a room with crayons and a TV.

Fitness Centre: A well-equipped modern gym for those who did not come to Bali entirely to eat Nasi Goreng three times a day.

Spa and Massage: Rejuvenating massage treatments are available on-site.

Gardens: A tranquil garden area provides a quieter alternative to the rooftop energy.

Spacious and elegant spaces for a relaxing resort stay

🏄 Surf Concierge (in partnership with Roxy): The hotel has a dedicated surf concierge service in partnership with Roxy. This thoughtful service is perfect if you want guidance on the best breaks for your level, board recommendations or help arranging lessons. Whether you are a complete beginner or just want local knowledge on where to paddle out, this is a brilliant resource to have right on your doorstep, especially with Batu Bolong Beach just a four-minute walk away.

Holiday Inn Resort Bali Canggu Dining: Roomah

I want to spend proper time on this section, because the food at this hotel was one of the genuine highlights of my entire Canggu trip. Not just for a hotel!

Roomah Canggu: The Best Breakfast in Canggu

Roomah is the hotel’s all-day dining restaurant on the ground floor. The name comes from the Indonesian word rumah, meaning home — and the kitchen takes that seriously!

It seats up to 120 guests across a warm, wood-accented interior with plenty of natural light and a small al fresco section outside. Walk-in guests from outside the hotel are also welcome, which tells you how confident they are in what they are serving.

But let us start with breakfast, because breakfast at Roomah is something else entirely.

Best hotel breakfast in Bali

Roomah serves what they call their Best Breakfast — a scumptuous buffet concept with unlimited a la carte hot dishes, meaning you choose from the menu and the kitchen cooks fresh to order. Everything comes out freshly prepared!

The cold buffet spread covers freshly baked bread and pastries, cereals, yoghurt, cold cuts, cheeses, fresh fruit, dried fruit, and salads. Free-flowing specialty coffee, tea, and chilled juices are included throughout. Breakfast runs daily from 6:30 AM to 11:00 AM.

The hot dishes are where it gets genuinely exciting. You can order the Nasi Goreng Kampung: hearty fried rice, sunny side up egg, tofu, tempeh, chicken sausage, prawn or chicken satay, crackers, and pickled acar or go full Western with the Great Breakfast: three eggs any style, streaky bacon, chicken sausage, homemade baked beans, hashbrowns, mushrooms, tomato, and sourdough.

My ultra sumptuous breakfast every morning

There are Asian specialties, healthy options, and fusion dishes sitting comfortably alongside each other on the same menu. The kitchen makes its own sauces and seasonings from scratch. You can taste the difference.

A shout-out to the live cooking stations. I enjoyed one of the best french toasts of my life!

The whole spread is so sumptuous that I genuinely skipped lunch. Not because I forgot, but because there was simply no room left. I did not even think about food again until late afternoon, which, honestly, is the highest compliment you can pay a hotel breakfast. I have eaten at well-regarded standalone cafes in Canggu, and Roomah holds its own against all of them. For first-timers in Canggu who have not yet discovered the neighbourhood’s café scene, this breakfast will set a very high bar for the rest of your trip.

Roomah Dinner: À la Carte and the All-You-Can-Eat Buffet

Roomah serves a gastronomical dinner menu: Unlimited buffet spread with all-you-can-eat à la carte dishes

Dinner at Roomah is a completely different and unforgettable experience. The à la carte menu draws on Indonesian, Asian, and international influences with real depth and consistency.

Every dish I tried at dinner was a spot-on hit. Flavourful, freshly prepared, properly seasoned that lets the local ingredients do the work.

The headline dining service is the All-You-Can-Eat Dinner where I enjoyed an unlimited access to both the buffet and à la carte options. I could not stop eating, ordering and eating more!

Dietary needs are taken seriously throughout. Vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free and dairy-free options are available across the menu, and the team will adapt dishes where possible. Just speak to the service staff in advance.

Rooftop Pool Bar: Open from sunrise until midnight with panoramic Indian Ocean views. This is where the evenings shift into a different gear. Well-made cocktails, a creative drinks list and memorable sunset. In-room dining is also available if the balcony-and-robe option calls to you.
